From gentle to more challenging. Which one suits you?
Looking for an easy but delightful ride that everyone can do? The Paddy Trail is for you.
We stick to local paths and quiet lanes on this 11km loop from our base near Yatagala Temple.
Beautiful nature, exotic birds, indigenous wildlife, local life – you’ll see it all as you pedal through the Eluvila Bird Sanctuary and meander across the green paddy fields.
One highlight is pausing in our private jungle garden. And sipping fresh king coconut under the shady ambalama by a pond of blue water lilies. Can you spot the mango, cashew, cinnamon, banana, jackfruit, calamansi, coconut and pepper trees and bushes?
If you’ve got a bit more puff, why not try our extended version of the classic Paddy Trail?
This one’s over twice the length. But still a leisurely ride that’s doable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness.
The high point is cycling through peaceful mangroves along the northern edge of beautiful Koggola Lake.
From these gravel tracks, you’ll see one of Sri Lanka’s biggest natural lakes and its seven islands. Perhaps you’ll even spot a crocodile (at a very safe distance) …
On this tour, our refreshing king coconut pause is at a traditional roadside ‘kade’ stall.
Hoping for something a bit more challenging? Look no further than our Hiyare Hill Climb …
The 41km trail is a fantastic ride for keener cyclists.
And the Hiyare nature reserve is well worth the climb. Its large reservoir, pristine rainforest and multitude of exotic birds and wildlife await you.
We’ll pause here for snacks (all included). Then it’s downhill all the way back to Idle Bikes HQ. Through paddy fields and past Koggala Lake.
On this tour of varied landscapes, you’ll cycle past fields of tea, cinnamon and rubber.
We recommend starting early.
Every Full Moon in Sri Lanka is celebrated with a public holiday. With less traffic around it’s the perfect day for a bike ride. If you’re part of a group or travelling alone and enjoy meeting fellow travellers, come and join.
We meet at Idle Bikes HQ at 9am and various routes will be available depending on your desire to push the pedals. There will also be Sri Lankan treats and ‘short eats’ like roti, kola kand, halepa, fruit and local tea.
If you have an appetite for more than cycling, why not add on lunch as part of your tour? We have 3 different options to choose from:
